Hey, I’m Shauna.
Thanks for stopping by!
During the day I work as the data scientist for a community child and youth mental health agency, where I build the models, dashboards, and reproducible reports the clinical teams use. Most of my days involve writing R (and increasingly Python), wrangling big, messy EHR datasets, fitting statistical models to that data, and generating reports for leadership. It’s this work that helps keep me honest about what data can and can’t do.
I’m also a researcher finishing up a graduate degree in experimental psychology with a strong computational focus. My research sits in two places that turn out to have more in common than they look: applied machine learning on electronic health record data, and autonomous human–robot interaction. Both are really questions about what it takes to make a probabilistic system both useful and reliable in a setting where people depend on it.
